Last Summer I started this enormous painting of Chris Martin. It is very much inspired by the work of Chuck Close. It was set aside for a few months after I went back to uni in March and today was the first time I've gone back to it since then. I thought I would post the series of work in progress photos just to get an idea of how the work is evolving. I finished the first layer today. He does look a little bit creepy but here's hoping that the creepiness is lost once more layers are added. This is far from my usual process of painting. I'm not used to having to be this systematic with my paintings. There is still an element of spontaneity in it with the colours though, which I love.
'Chris' is painted using acrylics on canvas.
